58-Year-Old Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Lakeland Accident



Lake County, FL – A tragic accident in Lake County early this morning resulted in the death of a 58-year-old pedestrian. The incident occurred at approximately 4:07 AM on May 29, 2024, at the intersection of State Road 40 and Blue Creek Lodge Road.


The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the accident involved a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 58-year-old woman from Polk City, FL. The vehicle was traveling westbound on State Road 40 when the driver encountered the pedestrian standing in the westbound lane.


In an attempt to avoid the pedestrian, the driver swerved left. However, the right side of the Jeep still collided with the pedestrian. The pedestrian, a resident of Umatilla, FL, was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders.


Authorities have not released the name of the pedestrian pending notification of next of kin.


The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, who was wearing a seatbelt, was uninjured and remained at the scene following the accident. She was not transported to the hospital.


Local authorities, including the Florida Highway Patrol, are currently investigating the incident to determine the circumstances leading up to the collision. They have not yet provided further details.
