Culpeper County - In a daring act of theft, the Culpeper Police Department is currently investigating a commercial burglary at Merchants Grocery Company, located in the 800-block of Maddox Drive, Culpeper, Virginia. The incident, which culminated in the theft of a significant haul of cigarette cartons and a delivery truck, occurred in the late evening of March 23, 2024, and was reported to authorities the following day at approximately 12:04 PM.
An employee of Merchants Grocery Company made the distressing call to the Culpeper County E-911 Center, prompting an immediate response from local police officers. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that the suspects had already vacated the scene, leaving behind little evidence of their presence other than the conspicuous absence of goods and a vehicle.
Detectives were swiftly dispatched to initiate a thorough investigation. Their findings revealed that a group of five suspects had forcibly entered the business premises around 9 PM on March 23. The audacious burglars then proceeded to pilfer an undisclosed number of cigarette cartons before making their getaway in a stolen vehicle belonging to the grocery company.
The vehicle, identified as a white 2019 International 4300 Penske rental truck, bears the Virginia license plate RA44708. It was last observed heading eastbound on Route 3/Germanna Highway, within the town limits of Culpeper, at approximately 2 AM on March 24.
