Fatal Head-On Collision on Stage Coach Trail

CITRUS COUNTY, FL – According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a devastating head-on collision on Stage Coach Trail (CR-480) in Citrus County resulted in one fatality and several others involved, occurring on June 8, 2024, at approximately 1:45 PM.

The incident involved two vehicles: a Dodge Ram, driven by a 20-year-old man from Weeki Wachee, and a Toyota Tundra, operated by a 56-year-old man from Inverness. According to reports, the Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound on CR-480 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline of the roadway just west of South Meredith Avenue and collided nearly head-on with the Toyota Tundra, which was traveling westbound.

The impact caused both vehicles to rotate, with the Dodge Ram coming to a halt in the westbound lane and the Toyota Tundra ending up on the northern grass shoulder. Tragically, the driver of the Toyota Tundra was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Ram and his passengers—a 27-year-old male from Spring Hill and a 19-year-old male from Cocoa—were involved in the crash, but the extent of their injuries was not immediately reported.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash, including why the Dodge Ram veered across the centerline. This tragic event has shaken the local community, highlighting the ever-present need for vigilance and safety on the road.

Traffic was disrupted for several hours as emergency services worked to clear the scene and commence their investigations. Local law enforcement urges drivers to remain cautious and aware of their surroundings to avoid such tragic incidents in the future.

Further updates will be provided as more details become available regarding the circumstances of the crash and the conditions of those involved.
