Leesburg, FL – Police Seek Help Identifying Suspect in Deadly Robbery. The Leesburg Police Department is urgently requesting assistance from the public. The suspect involved in a robbery and shooting that occurred last night at the Fast Stop Superette located at 3702 Picciola Rd.
At approximately 9:08 PM on May 30, 2024, Leesburg patrol officers responded to the scene after reports of a robbery and shooting. Upon arrival, they found the store clerk on the floor with at least one gunshot wound. The clerk was unconscious when discovered. Emergency services, including Lake EMS and Leesburg Fire-Rescue, were called to provide immediate medical aid.
Despite rapid medical intervention, the victim was airlifted to Ocala Regional Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Officers quickly established a perimeter around the scene and called in the K9 unit and Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) aviation to assist in an extensive search for the suspect. Unfortunately, the search did not result in the apprehension of the perpetrator. Leesburg detectives and Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) canvassed nearby businesses for additional evidence.
In a significant development, detectives have now retrieved additional video footage of the suspect, offering much clearer images than previously available (see attached). The suspect is described as an adult male with a slim build.
