Davenport, FL – Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide Investigations have arrested the driver responsible for a devastating crash in Davenport on Friday, July 19, 2024. Tiffany West, 36, of Orlando, was taken into custody on Wednesday, July 24th, and transported to the Polk County Jail. She faces charges of Vehicular Homicide, a second-degree felony.
The tragic incident claimed the life of 39-year-old Alicia Carmona, who was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Her two children, who were also injured in the crash, have since been released from the hospital and are now living with their aunt.
“I am happy to say that the two children have been released from the hospital and they are now living with their aunt. They still have some physical injuries to recover from, but even worse for them is that they lost their mother due to the irresponsible actions of Tiffany West,” stated Sheriff Grady Judd.
Detectives determined that West's vehicle was traveling between 72-79 mph in a 30 mph zone at the time of the crash. A blood sample taken from West after the crash has been sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for testing.
According to PCSO detectives, West exhibited signs of impairment on the night of the incident, and additional charges, including DUI Manslaughter, are anticipated pending the results of the blood test.
The investigation remains ongoing.
