Star Wars Greedo Actress Maria De Aragon Passes Away

An important figure in one of the most iconic scenes in Star Wars history has sadly passed away. Maria De Aragon, the actress who brought the character of Greedo to life in George Lucas' original 1977 Star Wars film, has died at the age of 81. She passed away in April from natural causes, as confirmed by her management company, Coolwaters Productions.

Maria De Aragon's portrayal of Greedo, the alien bounty hunter, played a pivotal role in the famous "Han Shoots Greedo" sequence. Filming the reshoots in Los Angeles after principal photography in London, De Aragon’s close-up scenes opposite Harrison Ford’s Han Solo have become legendary, sparking much debate and discussion among fans over the years.

Coolwaters Productions shared the news of her passing on Instagram, saying, "Coolwaters Productions LLC is sad to report that our client Ms. Maria De Aragon, the actress who helped bring the character of 'Greedo' to life in 'Star Wars: A New Hope,' has passed away. Maria filmed the reshoots in California after George Lucas sought to make the character more animated."

Beyond her role in Star Wars, Maria De Aragon had a diverse acting career, appearing in films such as "Teenager," "Wonder Woman," and "The Cremators." Despite her brief screen time as Greedo, she left a lasting impact on Star Wars fans. Known for her humor, she would often quip in Q&A sessions, “What do you think of Harrison Ford?” and then respond with a laugh, “He kills me.”

De Aragon passed away on April 30, 2024, at the CHSLD Nicolet nursing home in her native Montreal. She leaves behind her family in Canada. Coolwaters Productions expressed their condolences, stating, "Our hearts are saddened, and we wish her family the very best. We thank all her Star Wars fans for years of support."

Maria De Aragon’s contribution to the Star Wars legacy remains unforgettable. As she joins the Force, her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of fans around the world.
