Fort Meade, FL – Agriculture Crime detectives from the Polk County Sheriff's Office made significant arrests on June 25, 2024, in Fort Meade for environmental crimes and successfully recovered a dog that had been missing for over a year.

Detectives responded to a complaint from a Fort Meade resident about unknown individuals camping in his woods near the Peace River. Upon entering the woods, they discovered three suspects, identified as 48-year-old Clyde Gillan, 31-year-old Chasity Campbell, and 49-year-old Guy Mullins, using two tents.

The campsite was littered with a large amount of trash, and the suspects had been burning plastics and household items in the woods, creating a hazardous environment. Due to the volume of waste, the trio was charged with Felony Illegal Dumping.

Additionally, Clyde and Chasity faced charges of Illegal Burning and Possession of Methamphetamine, Hydrocodone, and Drug Paraphernalia.

Among the discoveries at the campsite was a Cur Mix dog. A PCSO Animal Control officer responded and scanned the dog for a microchip, revealing it had been reported missing by its owner on April 29, 2023, after it ran away.

"The suspects had no permission to be on the victim's property; they were trashing it and creating a nuisance to public health. Now they've been removed, and the property owner is happy, the dog is happy, and the owner of the dog is happy. That makes me happy," said Sheriff Grady Judd.

The swift action by the detectives not only brought justice for the environmental crimes but also brought joy to a family reunited with their long-lost pet.
