BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A heartbreaking accident took place on Monday, June 24, 2024, at around 3:03 PM on US-1 (State Road 5) and 1st Street, resulting in the death of an elderly man from Barefoot Bay.

The incident involved three vehicles: a van, a truck tractor, and a pickup truck. The 1999 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, driven by an 81-year-old man, was heading southbound on US-1 when it suddenly crossed the median into oncoming traffic. The van collided head-on with a northbound 2015 Mack GU cement truck. The impact sent debris flying, which struck a 2020 GMC Sierra in the adjacent lane.

The elderly driver of the van was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt, but his name is being withheld until his family can be notified.

The driver of the cement truck, a 57-year-old man from Lake Worth, sustained minor injuries and was also wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 52-year-old man from Grant Valkaria, and his 50-year-old passenger from Grant, were unharmed. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
