Tragic Early Morning Crash on SR-44



Citrus County, FL – According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a tragic accident occurred early Monday morning, June 3, 2024, on SR-44, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The incident happened at approximately 6:12 AM, east of South Shad Terrace.


According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 61-year-old man from Hernando, was traveling westbound on SR-44 when a 60-year-old woman from Inverness attempted to walk across the highway. The pedestrian entered the path of the vehicle and was struck.


The woman sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Hyundai Sonata suffered minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.


The FHP is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. This unfortunate event highlights the dangers pedestrians face on busy roadways and the importance of vigilance for both drivers and those on foot.
