Tragic Multi-Vehicle Crash in Marion County: 8 Lives Lost; 40 Injured.

Marion County, FL – According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a devastating traffic collision on State Road 40 in Marion County has resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol is actively investigating the incident, which occurred approximately 500 feet west of SW 148 Court.


Details of the Collision

At approximately 6:35 AM, a 2010 International bus transporting about 53 farm workers collided with a 2001 Ford Ranger truck in a sideswiped manner. The impact caused the bus to veer off the roadway, crash through a fence, and subsequently overturn.

Casualties and Injuries

  • Fatalities: Eight individuals have been confirmed deceased at the scene.

  • Injuries: Approximately 40 people have been transported to local medical facilities for treatment of various injuries.


Medical Response

AdventHealth is currently treating 16 patients from the crash:

  • AdventHealth Ocala: 12 patients are being treated in the main emergency department.

  • AdventHealth Timber Ridge ER: Four patients are receiving care.


Investigation and Response

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragic event. Emergency responders, including paramedics, firefighters, and law enforcement, arrived promptly to provide assistance and transport the injured to hospitals.
