According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a tragic accident on southbound I-75 near Mile Marker 246 resulted in the death of a 44-year-old Sun City man and serious injuries to a 42-year-old Sun City woman. The incident occurred late last night when the Mercury Milan they were traveling in lost control, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Mercury Milan, driven by the woman, veered off the roadway and collided with a guardrail. The impact redirected the vehicle back into the inside travel lane, where it came to a final rest. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severe injuries sustained in the crash. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities confirmed that neither occupant was restrained at the time of the crash, which likely contributed to the severity of their injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and it remains unclear what led the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The Florida Highway Patrol urges all drivers and passengers to wear seat belts at all times and to remain vigilant on the roadways. This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of not wearing seat belts and the importance of road safety.

Further details will be provided as the investigation continues.
