Winter Haven Man Killed in Crash with Tractor-Trailer

Polk County, FL – A tragic collision in Polk County early this morning around 5:25 am resulted in the death of a 65-year-old Winter Haven man. The accident occurred at the intersection of Old Lucerne Park Road and Lucerne Park Road, involving a Ford Fusion and a tractor-trailer.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Ford Fusion, driven by the Winter Haven man, was traveling southbound on Old Lucerne Park Road when it attempted to turn left at the intersection. In doing so, the vehicle crossed into the path of a westbound tractor-trailer driven by a 60-year-old man from Hialeah.
The tractor-trailer collided with the left side of the Ford Fusion, causing both vehicles to rotate and come to rest along the south shoulder of the roadway. The Ford Fusion also struck a utility pole during the impact.
Emergency responders arrived swiftly, but the driver of the Ford Fusion was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.
The intersection was closed for several hours as investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash and clear the wreckage. Authorities remind drivers to exercise caution at intersections and to be aware of the potential risks when making turns.
