Woman Struck and Killed After Exiting Vehicle on SR-54 in Pasco County

Pasco County, FL — According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), in the early hours of July 27, 2024, a tragic accident occurred on SR-54 near Crescent Moon Drive, resulting in the death of a 40-year-old Land O Lakes woman.
The incident took place at approximately 12:10 AM when a Ford Explorer, driven by a 21-year-old man from Lutz, was traveling eastbound in the outside lane of SR-54. As the Explorer approached Crescent Moon Drive, it was passing a stationary Honda Civic, which was stopped along the outside road edge for an unknown reason.
As the Ford Explorer was passing, the driver of the Honda Civic, a 40-year-old woman from Land O Lakes, opened her door and exited the vehicle. She was immediately struck by the passing Explorer. Tragically, she suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
The driver of the Explorer was uninjured in the incident. However, a 37-year-old male passenger from Odessa, who was in the Honda Civic at the time, sustained minor injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash. The cause for the Honda Civic being stopped on the road edge remains unknown.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward as they continue to seek answers about the events that led to this fatal incident. The identity of the deceased woman is being withheld pending notification of her family.
